WAVE MEETING

Water Awareness for the Vanderburgh Environment

 

June 15, 2005

 

TIME AND PLACE OF MEETING

WAVE met June 15, 2005, 8:30 a.m., at the 4-H Center.  Brenda Jeffers, Bill Jeffers, Pam Pelaski, Bonnie Bittner, Holly McCutchan, Dave Elgin, and Monica Freeman were present.

 

READING OF THE MINUTES

A motion by Bill Jeffers and a second by Bonnie Bittner approved the minutes of the April 6, 2005 meeting.

 

UNFINISHED BUSINESS

Constitution and Bylaws. Dave Elgin approved the bylaws for signing.

 

Indiana Water Resource Association.  The Indiana Water Resource Association was founded in 1979 and promotes the same interests as WAVE.  Bill Jeffers made a motion to donate the $10.00 dues from his campaign account.  The motion was second by Pam Pelaski.  There was a discussion about establishing fund raising opportunities.

 

Earth Day, April 22, Howell Wetlands.  Monica Freeman and Pam Pelaski attended the Earth Day event at Howell Wetlands.  There were three classes from Daniel Wertz School in attendance.  The teachers were given handout for the students.  Debbie Vannatter was present and discussed with Pam and Monica the possibility of having a WET workshop for teachers during their in service days.

   

Pickin’ on the Pigean.  Brenda and Bill Jeffers were present to give out water guns and coloring books.  SWCD had an enviroscape that was a hit.  There were animals, canoes, and food.  A good time was had by all.

 

Grants.  Blair Borries received a grant for equipment to use in water monitoring.  WAVE needs to apply for grants for educational supplies in the range of $100.00 to $200.00. Mike Wathen’s idea for water awareness will cost around $250.00.  Monica Freeman will work with Mike to find a grant for the money. 

 

Water Display.  Brenda Jeffers brought in a mock up of the display and asked for any suggestions or improvements.  Holly McCutchan suggested that each side be done in different colors.

 

NEW BUSINESS

Showing Display at National Night Out and Westside Improvement Picnic.  Brenda Jeffers would like to have the display finished in time for National Night Out and the Westside Improvement Picnic.  Dave Elgin stated Four Rivers has felt boards that can be borrowed.

 

Aquatic Macro Invertebrates Display.  Blair Borries suggested that WAVE set up aquariums at Wesselman Nature Center with macro invertebrates common to our waters. Pam Pelaski suggested two aquariums, one with unhealthy water and one with healthy water.

 

Go Fish Indiana.  Holly McCutchan invited everyone to participate on July 16, 2005 from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Scott Township Park.
