PICKENą ON THE PIGEON 2005

What a beautiful day for Pickin’ on the Pigeon activities. Young and old alike enjoyed the many activities and ever present live music that occupied Saturday, June 4, at Garvin Park.

Wesselman’s Nature Center’s Canoe Evansville hosted a day filled with canoe rides on the lake, live animal presentations and displays, hands-on activities, and refreshments.

WAVE (Water Awareness for the Vanderburgh Environment) and SWCD (Soil and Water Conservation District) worked to inform the public about water and soil conservation/quality. WAVE had numerous paper hands-on activities used to inform the public about water quality awareness, and the free squirt guns were a big hit. SWCD had the enviroscape available so visitors could witness that poor environmental habits can contaminate water throughout a watershed. Also available was an IDEM display that mimicked the flow of ground water.

One of the interactive displays gave participants a chance to travel Pigeon Creek from the Gibson County court house to where the creek ends. Hands-on Discovery had numerous activities such as decorating walking canes, fishing poles, and binoculars.
