This website created by the Pacific Institute for Sacramento County, with assistance from the EPA Climate Showcase Communities Program grant.

We were particularly inspired by a few excellent websites:

• The Garden-Garden website from the Santa Monica Office of Sustainability and the Environment. This site tracks resource use at two neighboring landscapes, and one that is eco-friendly and another that is more conventional.
• Smart Garden Watering, from Melbourne Australia. This website helps you calculate how much water your garden needs, and has lots of nifty features.

Useful Software

jQuery, Really nice javascript framework.

jQuery UI, For creating a number of interactive elements on the page (form autocomplete, tabbed displays, dialog boxes, etc.).

jQuery Validation, for doing form validation (e.g. making sure the user entered information properly).

jQuery Numeric, makes input fields so that the user can only enter numbers (no letters).

jQPlot, For making attractive charts right in the web browser.

Notepad++, An amazing free text editor for when you have to use Windows.

Ubuntu Linux, a wonderful free operating system.

Google Maps API, Driving distances to waste handling facilities were determined with the brilliant Google Distance Matrix API.
